Johann Springorum

Johann Springorum (der Ältere) — son of Diederich Springorum — was a prominent citizen of mid-15th-century Bochum and an early figure in the recorded history of the Springorum family. He first appears in the city records in 1441, when he and his brother consented to the sale of an annual rent by their father.

Between 1476 and 1482, Johann Springorum (I) served as Bürgermeister (mayor) of Bochum, together with Albert Scholemester. In this role he acted as a witness in numerous charters and was directly involved in the governance and daily affairs of the town.

His legacy continued through his son, Johann Schriver, who would later also rise to the office of mayor of Bochum. The life and career of Johann Springorum (der Ältere) thus offer a glimpse into the civic structures of late medieval Bochum, while also marking the early ascent of a family whose members would long remain active in positions of local authority.

Payment was to be made each year on St. Martin’s Day. If the rent was not paid, the buyers could claim the Mockershoff estate in Boichum.
