Uncovering the Threads That Bind Us To The Netherlands

House of Springorum

Welcome to the Springorum Family History

This site traces the Springorum family lineage from its earliest recorded roots in 17th-century Dortmund, Germany, through subsequent generations—including branches that migrated to the Netherlands and beyond. My research primarily follows the direct male line, starting with Reinhard Springorum, the first confirmed ancestor to bear the name. Along the way, you’ll encounter fascinating figures: priests, merchants, and even a privateer captain. Every connection is supported by historical records and a crucial DNA match.

While Reinhard Springorum remains the earliest confirmed ancestor, documents reveal the Springorum surname in Bochum as far back as 1441. However, I haven’t yet found definitive evidence—such as birth records—to link these earlier mentions to the established family tree.

Whether you’re a Springorum descendant, a genealogy enthusiast, or simply curious about family histories, I invite you to explore and uncover where the Springorum story takes you.

Why?

When yet another person asked me where exactly my last name comes from, I decided to investigate it myself. Using the wealth of publicly accessible archives, the trail quickly led me to Amsterdam. However, the two Springorums I found in Amsterdam traced their roots back to Germany — specifically to Heinrichenburg, Vest Recklinghausen. In the surrounding area (Dortmund, Bochum, Herdecke & Unna), I encountered several more Springorums.

How?

I couldn’t find direct evidence linking the Amsterdam Springorums to the descendants of Reinhard Springorum from Dortmund. So, I decided to take a DNA test. To my surprise, it revealed a match with a German individual who was a direct descendant of Reinhard Springorum, about seven or eight generations back. But I am still searching for the supporting evidence in archives and church books.

What?

During this journey, I stumbled upon remarkable stories, which I have gathered here for anyone bearing the name Springorum — and for anyone else who enjoys diving into a bit of history.
