I Reinhard Springorum (1593 - 1666) ⚭ Catrinen Vasolt (1597 - ?)

Reinhard Springorum is the earliest known ancestor with the name Springorum. His name appears several times in the church records of Dortmund, linked to both the birth and death of his children. The witnesses listed at the baptisms of his children include prominent figures, such as the mayor of Dortmund and the leading clergyman of the parish.

II Johannes Springorum (1625 - 1694) ⚭ Clara Reinermann (1632 - ?)

Johannes Springorum was the eldest son of Reinhard Springorum (1593 - 1666) and was born in 1625. He became a priest (Pfarrer) in Kirchende, Germany. Around the village church in Kirchende, several gravestones are displayed, including the one of his 17-year-old daughter. His own gravestone is located inside, beneath the church tower. Unfortunately, the inscription on his stone is difficult to read.

Johannes Springorum (†1694), priest in Kirchende, should not be confused with Johannes Springorum (†1682), who served as a priest and chaplain in Bochum. The latter played a key role as a liaison between the Abbeys of Werden and Helmstedt and the Marienborn Monastery in Lütgendortmund.

III-B Johann Heinrich Springorum, Sr. ⚭ Helena Herdinck

Little is known about Johann Heinrich Springorum, living in Heinrichenburg, Vest Recklinghaussen. It appears that Johann Heinrich first married Sibylla Vasolt. Could she be related to Johann’s grandmother, Catrinen Vasolt? After Sibylla’s death, he married Helena Herdinck. Johann Heinrich and Helena had three children together.

There is no concrete evidence proving that Johann Heinrich was the son of Johannes Springorum, such as birth records in the church books. The volume that would cover the likely period of his birth is missing, although the records for his older siblings still exist. There is, however, compelling DNA evidence linking me — and thus the descendants of Johann Heinrich — to Johann Bernhard II, a direct descendant of Reinhard Springorum.

In 1742, Johann Heinrich and Helena Herdinck are explicitly named as witnesses, identified as the grandfather and grandmother of Josephus Bernhardus Henricus (Barend) Springorum.

Barend emigrated to Amsterdam with his brother Willem. He sailed with the Dutch East India Company (VOC) aboard the ship De Nijenburg, where a mutiny broke out. Later, he became a privateer (kaapbaas) commanding the commissioned ship De Spion. Barend married Willemina Altmans, with whom he had three children. Two of them died at a very young age. No further information could be found about the oldest daughter.

Willem emigrated to Amsterdam together with his brother Barend. Unlike his more adventurous brother, Willem settled in the city and worked as a grocer. He and Pieternelletje had eight children. The names of Willem and Barend appear in several birth records of each other’s children, showing their close family connection.
